What is the CARB’s “Clean Truck Check” Program?

  • The California Air Resources Board’s Clean Truck Check Heavy Duty Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) program is aimed to reduce emissions from Diesel (non-gasoline) vehicles with a GVWR of more than 14,000 pounds.

  • Vehicle owners are required to periodically test their emissions and submit the results to the California Air Resources Board.

  • These new regulations apply to anyone operating busses, trucks, agriculture equipment, and motorhomes.

  • Testing must be completed by a CARB credentialed tester.

Flowchart detailing Clean Truck Check compliance requirements from 2023 to 2025. It outlines high-emitter vehicle screening starting January 2023, fleet and vehicle reporting from October 2023 to January 2024, resolving enforcement holds from July to December 2024, and completing periodic compliance tests by June 2025. Notes mention DMV fines for non-compliance and checking the reporting database for deadlines.
